Are you being held captive by self-doubt- a lack of confidence in yourself or your abilities? Are you allowing the “I can’t mentality” dictate the course and outcome of your life? Are you waiting to get approvals and validations from others before you move on with accomplishing what is best for your life? Are you confined to the “impossible” zone? Well, if you answered in the affirmative to any of these questions, this post is especially dedicated to you.
You see, one thing we sometimes fail to realize as humans are that no one else would ever love us more than we ever loved ourselves, and the earlier we realized this, the better. This is because having this basic understanding of life may help us realize that we are totally responsible for what we do with our lives.
It’s unfortunate that we live in a world that has things we wished didn’t exist. We have people whose preoccupation is to bring others down, rather than lift them up, and peradventure, you may have fallen victim to one of them. However, regardless of whether you have been a victim of such or not, your success or failure in life is due in most part, on the actions you take.
If you are waiting for the world’s seal of approval before you take those steps towards achieving your goals, you may end up having to wait till eternity. If you must succeed and make giant strides here on earth, you must be willing to silence those self-doubts and thoughts of impossibilities, that may still be dancing around you.You can always become anything you desire, as long as you are willing to put in what is required. One big constraint that prevents people from attaining their goals, is a lack of patience. As humans, the tendency is for us to want to get things done quickly and at a certain time, and when that doesn’t seem to happen, we tend to get discouraged, which gives rise to self-doubt and all the other negative emotions.
The fact that someone else is making progress on a similar goal you are trying to achieve, does not automatically mean you are failing. The only thing that may be standing between you and that person is these 4 letter words: TIME. Time indeed may be the only thing separating the other person’s “obvious success”, from your “unobvious success”. Please pay attention to the words I decided to use. One person’s success is currently obvious, while the other person’s success is unobvious. But what is the quality that makes them both alike? They are both successful. It’s only that one has just occurred, while the other one has a timeline located somewhere in the near future. Therefore, rather than sit around and be doubting your abilities or competencies, just keep at what you are doing, with the “I can” mentality.
While working on achieving my goals, I like to reflect on the words of some very inspiring people. The quote below is one I truly like from Mark Twain,
“Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first”- Mark Twain. So, if you are waiting for the world to become a certain way before you summon up the confidence you need to make good on your goals, you may end up waiting forever, because that time may never come. It’s time to throw self-doubt out the window because it will not pay the bills or take care of the family. You must make up your mind to stand up to life’s challenges, and work towards achieving your goals. And that begins with changing your mentality. Instead of saying “I can’t do it”, why not change your confession to “I can crush it?”
Norman Vincent Peale stated it beautifully,
“Change your thoughts and you change your world!”- Norman Vincent Peale
In wrapping this up, self-doubt is a potential steal of potentials, which is designed to make people live sub-optimal lives. We must all remember that the power to make our lives better or worse is in our hands. We can either decide to silence all the “I can’t” voices within us, and replace them with “I certainly can”, or decide to wait for everything else to fall into place before we make good on our lives goals. The unfortunate thing about the latter option is I cannot guarantee when that time would ever come.
I would leave you with one more encouraging quote:
“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination”- Jimmy Dean. Your destination is closer than you think. Never give up!
To your continued success. Cheers!!!
