3 things I CANNOT change that I am proud of: Black, Bold and Beautiful

Science makes us understand that the earth in which we live in is not static, but is a sphere that is constantly on the move, albeit subtly. If it were static, we would all be on the same plane, and in the same geographical and time zones; but that is not the case.

Therefore, it is surprising to find that some persons have held on to biases that were in place during the days of our forefathers. These people have fixed, unchanged and highly inflexible ideas about other people who are somewhat different from them. And these biases have blinded their hearts and eyes to appreciating the good in others. And it is appalling to say the least.

As sojourners and pilgrims on this planet, we must appreciate the fact that, we are all uniquely different, and that our diversity makes us more beautiful and stronger. Any contrary opinion or perspective to this fundamental truth, is a sheer display of outright ignorance, which requires a bit of education. People holding on to such beliefs, are still held back in the past to static and repugnant ideologies. And these people need to move along with the tide. They need to walk away from the past, and step into the present, and the beautiful future that is before all of us.

With the recent happenings that have attempted to disparage people of certain races, I have had some time to carry out a thorough introspective analysis of who I am, and what defines me. And here is what I found: there are certain things that I CANNOT change about myself. Those things define me and I am immensely proud of them.Black, Bold, and Beautiful.jpg

  1. I am Black and part of the African American or Black Race. I cannot apologize for being Black, because the Creator could not have made a mistake in planting my roots with my forebears. I wasn’t given a choice to decide what color of skin I wanted to have, at the time of my birth. I was born ME. So why would I allow anyone’s selfish opinions about me, make me feel less than I should? I am proud of my heritage, and everyone, irrespective of where you come from should also be. You should NEVER apologize for being you.
  2. I am Bold. I cannot apologize for being bold, because that’s the power I have to express myself, and show the world what I am made of. No human being was ever born empty, and that includes me. We were all born with distinct and unique gifts, which we ought to use to make this world a better place. So many people are suffering from self-pity and self-loathing. And many others lack the confidence to step out and bless the world with what they have been gifted with. For a while, that was me, but not anymore. Because, I realized that I was short-changing my self and my community of valuable skills, that could impact the lives of others. And once I stepped out of that bubble, there has been no going back.
  3. I am Beautiful. I do not mean physical beauty (because of course, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder), but the beauty that comes from the heart. I can NEVER apologize for helping others in my community, spreading love and good will around me, and being a source of encouragement for those that need me the most. The beauty in me, makes me see everyone as “humans” and nothing else. And I treat everyone the same way I would want to be treated. That is what life should be all about. A place where we can reach out and lend help to our neighbors who may be in need; a place where we can offer a smile to those that are hurting or simply wrapping them up in a warm embrace. That is what it should be about.

In wrapping this up, I want you to understand that there are certain things about yourself that you cannot change, and which you should never loose sleep about. Be proud of who you are. Be proud of your history and your achievements. Be proud of what makes you, YOU! And while doing that, never forget to appreciate the fact that, our diversity makes us more beautiful, and indeed stronger. Our diversity complements us, and makes us more complete as a community. Rather than denigrate our differences, let us celebrate that which makes us stronger, bolder and complete-Our Diversity!

To your continued success. Cheers!!!
